According to our information, the André-Picquenot recreational centernestled near the Ravalet Castle Parkhas Tourlaville (delegated municipality of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, Manche), is closed by administrative measure since, probably, the month of February 2024.

By a security commission?

“It was closed but I have no more information,” says Gilles Lelong7e deputy in charge in particular of municipal buildingscontacted on Friday November 8 by telephone. THE deputy mayor evokes a probable decision of the safety commission.

Another source even mentions the term “ unsanitary ».

We will have a lot of maintenance work.

In the event that the City of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, which is responsible for 1,200 buildings, chooses to renovate this set which has several buildings with characteristic pyramidal roofs. THE green spaces remain maintained.

Gilles Lelong, however, learns that “the renovation is not included in the PPI (Multi-year Investment Plan)” underway in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin.

An eponymous stadium nearby

This André-Picquenot center was also one of the three sites where the OCLVO (Octeville Secular Communal Holiday Work), founded in 1959 and dissolved at the end of 2022, welcomed hundreds of children every year during the school holidays.

Like the eponymous stadium built nearby in1984this airy center celebrated the memory of André-Picquenot (1902-1986),journalist and sports manager from Cherbourg.
