The “dialogue mission” of Yaël Braun-Pivet and Gérard Larcher in New Caledonia must be “the beginnings of the path towards a global agreement”estimates, on France Inter, Saturday November 9, Arthur Delaporte, PS deputy and co-rapporteur of the text on the postponement of provincial elections, adopted Wednesday in the National Assembly. The President of the National Assembly and the President of the Senate flew to New Caledonia on Saturday for a four-day consultation mission, six months after the start of the protest movement which left 13 dead.
Arthur Delaporte wishes “let there be discussions on the electorate” et “the way in which it must evolve”. According to the socialist, “everyone agrees that we must redefine the criteria for access to this Caledonian citizenship and this is also the challenge of giving time to postpone the elections, because that allows us to have a local agreement, potentially behind a constitutional reform”before the elections which were postponed to November 2025.
