A 6-year-old child seriously injured after clinging to his father's car who wanted to abandon him in the woods

A 44-year-old father, resident of Frouard, in Meurthe-et-, is at the heart of a case of alleged violence against his 6-year-old son. According to initial information, this man tried to punish his child by abandoning him alone in a wood. Faced with the attempted abandonment, the boy, in panic, allegedly clung to his father's car and was dragged several dozen meters, suffering serious injuries.

The facts date back to Thursday October 31. That day, the man went to hospital with his son, presenting what he described as an “accident”. But the injuries noted – head trauma, wounds to the face and hands, and intense shock – quickly aroused the suspicions of medical staff, who immediately informed the police. As reported by L'Est Républicain, after collecting the child's testimony, the authorities placed the father in police custody.

A divergent story: cruel punishment or unfortunate accident?

The first elements of the investigation reveal that after an argument linked to the boy's behavior in a daycare center, the father decided to take him to the woods of Liverdun to “correct” him. Arriving on an isolated path, he allegedly asked the child to get out of the vehicle before accelerating, leaving him alone in the darkness. Panicked, the child allegedly tried to hold on to the door handle, and was dragged a significant distance before the vehicle finally stopped.

Faced with investigators, the father disputes this version of the facts. He maintains the child's injuries were accidental, saying his vehicle broke down and he asked his son to get out to help him maneuver. This version, however, did not convince the authorities, and the forty-year-old was indicted for “intentional violence by an ascendant against a minor under the age of 15” with a total incapacity for work of more than eight days.

Awaiting trial: a ban on contact with the child

At the end of police custody, the Nancy prosecutor, François Capin-Dulhoste, ordered the father's release under strict judicial supervision. He is now banned from having contact with his son and returning to his home until his trial date, scheduled for March 17. The court will then have to determine the exact circumstances of this incident and judge the seriousness of the alleged acts.
