The opposition of the agricultural world to the A412 motorway project came to fruition on June 22 during a large-scale demonstration in a plot located on the route of the future 2×2 lanes. And it is not the recent signing of the concession award decree that will change the situation.
In a press release dated Thursday, November 7, two managers of Chablaisian dairy cooperatives located in Brenthonne and in the Moises massif (Cervens) reaffirm their fierce opposition to the project as well as that of the link between the A40 and the crossroads of Hunters, in Geneva. Olivier Franzoi and Sylvain Gaillard, presidents of the two structures, first discuss the impact on the sector. “By removing tens of hectares of meadows, they would seriously compromise the possibility of respecting the specifications of Reblochon […] Collective compensation cannot match our losses: concerning the A412, this represents at least 75,000 Reblochons per year. Over the 55-year duration of the concession, this corresponds to an economic loss of more than 20 million euros.”
In addition to the economic argument, those responsible criticize the environmental impact. “Only a policy aimed at reducing road traffic will be able to resolve traffic problems while limiting the nuisances linked to air pollution.” And qualify the idea of unanimous political support for the A412. “The need for economic support of the agglomeration creates an alignment of thought. The mayors opposed to the project do not dare to speak out.” Which is therefore not the case for farmers who “do not want to be the adjustment variable of this infrastructure” concludes the press release.
