Brussels: traffic on four metro lines interrupted during this long weekend

LThe circulation of metros 1-5 and 2-6 will be interrupted between Gare de l’Ouest and Etangs Noirs as well as between Gare de l’Ouest and Osseghem during the long weekend from November 9 to 11, the company said on Monday. Brussels public transport.

“Two switches located in Beekkant must be replaced as part of regular maintenance of the network,” explains the Stib in a press release. This work will require the interruption of metro traffic between the Gare de l’Ouest and Étangs Noirs stations on lines 1 and 5 and Gare de l’Ouest and Osseghem on lines 2 and 6. “The pedestrian bridge which connects the rue Alphonse Vandenpeereboom and rue Dubois-Thorn will also be closed during the work,” underlines the company.

The work will begin during the night from Friday to Saturday and will end during the night from Monday to Tuesday. “The metros will run normally again as soon as the network opens on Tuesday, November 12,” assures the company.

A bus shuttle will be set up between Étangs Noirs and Gare de l’Ouest, via Osseghem and Beekkant in order to “offer an alternative to travelers”. In addition, line 87 (Simonis – Beekkant) will be extended to Étangs Noirs via Gare de l’Ouest and Osseghem.

Moreover, travelers can take – from Simonis and Gare de l’Ouest – lines 2 and 6 to reach Arts-Loi and continue their journey to Herrmann-Debroux or Stockel with lines 1 and 5. To get to the center from the capital, users will be able to take lines 2 and 6 to Gare du Midi or Rogier, where tram lines 4 and 10 will provide a connection to De Brouckère.

The Stib emphasizes that the 146 switches in the network must be replaced every 45 years.
