And essential place of commerce from city center Nimes (Gard) celebrates for 4 consecutive days its 140th anniversary! Thousands of Gardois are expected to participate in different events announced.

These are the imposing market halls located in the heart of the pedestrian district of the Gard city.

Several days

Organized by the municipality, these festivities began Thursday, November 7 with a major popular festival lasting nearly four hours. “It was very nice, festive. There were really a lot of people, in and also around our halls,” explains Jérôme, an urban planner from Gard, who participated in this inaugural event.

It was only the beginning. Until Sunday November 10 included the festivities will continue all weekend at a frenzied pace.

• Saturday November 9
  .. from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.: signing session from the book “The Great Adventure of Commerce”,
  .. from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.: Amateur cooking competition (for adults and children) on the theme “Imagine the birthday cake from the Halles de Nîmes”,
  .. from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.: Big children’s snack with a new cooking competition between the pastry chefs of Les Halles around the Aigues-Mortes fougasse (jury made up of children, who will taste the focaccia presented),
  .. All day: tasting of products on the stalls throughout the day
• Sunday November 10:
  .. at 9 p.m.: photo exhibition retracing the history of Les Halles, free product tasting sold by the numerous stalls, brass band concert in the Halles, numerous guided tours of the place,
  .. 11 a.m.: Official anniversary ceremony in the presence of the city's elected officials,
  .. 12 p.m.: Aperitif offered to the people of Nîmes by the municipality,
  .. from 6 p.m.: Musical evening in Les Halles and on rue Guizot. DJ Saudad will be on the decks.

A newcomer in fall 2025

For its 141st anniversary in 2025, the Halles de Nimes(Gard ) should have a newcomer. And not just any one. The Galeries Lafayette group has confirmed its arrival in the capital of Gard.

The future store will be located on the second floorof the building and will be extended over 2500m². The latter will have an iconic facade 75 meters long. The entrance to the store should be via rue Guizot. This will soon be returned to pedestrians.

The work has started. They must last 1 an. Their cost is around 9 million euros.
