We know when the work starts. Not always when it ends. But more often than not, it means there is a delay. In the Gersand construction site is an exception. That of the RN124. The most important road in the departmentwhich connects Auch to Toulouse, was to close for several days. This will ultimately no longer be the case.
“As part of the operation of 2×2 way upgrade of the RN124 between Gimont and L'Isle-Jourdain, the work to connect the alternative routes is progressing more quickly than expected”, announces the Department of Gers.
“In order to allow the commissioning of the three new alternative routes, namely the Mouniche-Rogou, Largente and Choulon routes, periods of temporary closures of the current section of the RN124 had been scheduled, involving temporary diversions for users Thanks to the notable progress in the work, the third closure period scheduled from November 12 at 9 p.m. to November 14 at 6 a.m. is canceled.
The construction is still not finished
Good news therefore, for users, who had experienced two closure periods of almost a week each since October 21, 2024. With diversions losing up to twenty minutes passing through Cologne, Mauvezin or Samatan.
Congested diversions which led to other closures as a safety measure on the RD12, the RD924, the RD253 and even the RD161.
Finishes
But the project is not yet complete. “Although the main closures have been lifted, finishing work remains necessary around the alternative routes, involving certain risks for the safety of workers and users,” underlines the Department.
On this, the precise days and times of this construction site have not been specified. But we already know, therefore, that there will be no real closure. “In the interest of minimize the impact of this finishing work on usersthe project management and the companies precisely analyzed each task and its location. The objective is to implement a suitable operating mode, such asalternating traffic outside peak hours, or at night, without deviationin order to optimize traffic flow during this finishing phase,” concludes the Department.
