The children of the René-Guy Cadou school, in Locminé, are in the front row to follow the Signan renaturation project. Monday, after two weeks of vacation, they were able to see that the works made good progress during their absence.
Many of them take a look at the river when crossing the footbridge which joins the establishment. Before, it was invisible, covered by the parking lot of this large November 11 square. Now you can hear the sound of the water, and even if it's not over, the appearance of the square has already changed a lot.
The Signan now winds along a retaining wall on one side, and a vegetated area on the other “with a berm which will be covered depending on the water level”, shows Yves Merle, from Blavet terre and water (project owner). Plants adapted to the aquatic environment will grow on the small strip of topsoil. As for the coconut canvas, it will degrade over time, since lawn has been sown underneath.
Rue Max Jacob closed until mid-January
Since mid-June, businesses have been coming to this space in the city center. After the repair of the networks (sanitation, electricity, fiber, etc.), the first shovels were given on the river section. “We first dug eight meters deep to install micro-piles,” explains Thierry Marois, project manager (Bourgois cabinet). A concrete base was then made, on which the concrete blocks were placed, which were assembled like Lego.”
The mur thus created, which begins at the war memorial, runs alongside the school and continues to the rue Max Jacob bridge.
This is where the workers will intervene in a few days. “For this, the street will be closed from November 20 to mid-January,” informs Alain Le Grand, deputy mayor in charge of the work. The usual diversions will be put in place (notably via rue Tristan Corbière).
The first step
“The work of river update are the first step in the development of the Place du 11 Novembre,” recalls the elected official. The cost of the operation amounts to 1.5 million euros (for which the city obtained several subsidies).
This is an important step, which will continue in 2025 with the development of the square and the intersection of rue Hoche, Richemont and Jacob. “This work is linked to the developments carried out in Bois d’Amour since there is ecological and hydraulic continuity,” adds Benoît Chichignoud, director of city services. The end of this first phase is scheduled for February.
And road to Vannes?
Other work has been underway for several months in Locminé, with the redevelopment of rue du Maréchal Leclerc. The coating on the Gare roundabout has been laid. The road should open in the coming days as far as rue André Citroën (at the insurance office).
