The pressure on Tbilisi does not subside. The leaders of , Germany and Poland called on Thursday, November 7, to “conduct transparent investigations quickly” in Georgia on “numerous irregularities” reported during the legislative elections of October 26. The pro-European camp, announced as the loser, refused to recognize the official results.

“If Georgia does not change course by demonstrating concrete reform efforts (…), we will not be able to support the opening of negotiations for accession to the European Union with this country “threaten President Emmanuel Macron, Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Prime Minister Donald Tusk in this joint statement.

The vote was won by the Georgian Dream party, in power since 2012. It is accused by its detractors of pro-Russian conservative and authoritarian drift and of wanting to distance Georgia from the European Union and NATO, which she refutes. The Kremlin has rejected accusations of interference, while the EU and the United States have reported “irregularities” and requested investigations. On Monday evening, thousands of opposition protesters gathered in front of the Georgian Parliament in Tbilisi, for the second time since the results were announced.
