“The temperatures are worthy of June”. In the middle of his 3,000 to 4,000 cabbage and broccoli plants, Eric Mancellon is a little desperate. The agricultural producer near Bollène looking forward to a real drop in temperatures in the department. During the day, the mercury still climbs briskly above 20 degrees. “The cabbages are waiting at the moment. They are waiting for it to get cold to start heading”explains Eric Mancellon.
His vegetables are not growing properly and the farmer is now afraid the appearance of late blight. Disease caused by fungi is favored by the mixture of heat and humidity. “You come here in the morning it’s wet everywhere”says Eric Mancellon. The consequence is already visible on the broccoli: “It's black inside if you cut it. In a few days they will be unsellable”.
“They are shooting us”
Beyond the climate problem, the cabbage and broccoli producer would like be able to treat its hectares of plantations. “Today we have contact products but not systemic. The problem is that France bans molecules but without a solution behind them. Whereas in Spain and Italy they have the right to use these molecules and their products arrive at our home We must be given the choice to be able to fight the disease. Eric Mancellon annoys.
