autumn does not stop the Asian hornets, the professionals' schedule is full

In the Ardennes, despite the cooler temperatures of recent days, the Asian hornet is resistant to climatic variations. With the fall of the leaves, many nests are discovered every day, in the trees, and are taken down by professionals who increase their interventions.

Interventions to try to stem the proliferation of Asian hornets are still numerous during this autumn period. This dangerous and invasive species forms nests which are discovered every day in trees.

“The season is over, but the founders are still in the nest and have not yet left, it is still time to treat the nests because the departure of the founders will lead to the creation of new nests in the following years”explains Vincent Liégeois of the company Stop Nuisibles 08. “We have calls every day. In general, people are quite worried, they call about balls in the trees, which they discover when the leaves fall, they don't really know how to react, who to call, the firefighters, the companies, the municipality so I am there to guide them until treatment”.

Vincent intervenes around ten times a day at the moment, which is a rare phenomenon for the month of November. It uses the tapping method, using a telescopic pole, which can reach 30 meters: “Once the needle is installed, the powder is injected inside the nest. It is permethrin which acts on the nervous system, it blocks the hornet's nervous connections, it begins to convulse, falls into a coma and subsequently dies. says Vincent Liégeois.

A few days after treatment, professionals must go find the nest and take it down from the top of the trees to remove the polluting materials and confirm its destruction. This enormous ball can weigh up to twenty kilos: “This is the typical case of the Asian hornet, a big ball which hangs at the top of the trees, which was founded this year, we treated it in recent days and today we came to remove it”confides the professional.“The Asian hornet creates a primary nest, generally located on the ground or in hedges. Once the nest is filled, the colony moves and creates a secondary nest, generally at the top of trees.”.

Pour a intervention on and not of hornets Asian, it costs between 80 and 110 euros with an approved company. This amount can, in part, be covered by the community of municipalities.
