A (big) page in Alesian commerce will turn on Wednesday, November 13. The Cora hypermarket from Alès (Gard) will close its doors, almost 40 years after its opening. This is not a permanent closure.
The retail giant Carrefour will take over the site on Tuesday, November 19, less than a week later. The 250 employees keep their jobs.
A huge site
The Gard hypermarket is part of the latest wave of stores to change brand, following the takeover of Cora by Carrefour.
Tens of thousands of Gard customers walked the streets 10 000m² of sales area. Formerly Radarthe Cora brand had appeared in Alès, almost 40 ans.
The change has already started within the Gard site. Carrefour had committed to putting in place “a transition period of about two weeks during which hypermarkets will remain open “. No less than 6,000 Carrefour products will thus be gradually installed on the shelves.
No layoffs
On site, 80,000 references of products will be offered to Gard customers within the future Carrefour. THE 250 employeesof the current Cora will keep their jobs after the change of brand.
“The overall structure will not change much, only the direction of traffic. The organization and hierarchy remain unchanged,” Philippe Jeannin, current director of Cora d’Alès, recently informed our colleagues at Objectif Gard.
