Prison closed for the three men who stole and slaughtered a goat in

Three men arrested on the night of Monday November 4 to Tuesday November 5, 2024 in (Ille-et-Vilaine) while they were transporting a goat cut into pieces were sentenced this Wednesday November 6, 2024 to six months in prison by the court Rennes Correctional Facility.

As a reminder, three pedestrians aged 21, 32 and 42 were arrested around 1 a.m. on avenue des Pays-Bas: two of them were carrying a heavy and imposing shopping bag which had attracted the attention of the police officers on patrol. Inside, the police had discovered a goat with its throat slit and cut into pieces as well as a kitchen knife: the animal had in fact just been stolen from the Écomusée de la Bintinais, located in an old farm to the south. of the city. Rennes Métropole, which is responsible for it, therefore became a civil party.

An “oblivion”

The third man was immediately arrested because he had “forgotten” an item of clothing and was returning to his two co-defendants. This Wednesday, November 6, 2024, these three were presented to the Rennes public prosecutor's office and all admitted the facts, assisted by their lawyers, Coraline Vaillant and Lucas Hervé. The prosecution decided to refer the three to an Appearance on Prior Acknowledgment of Guilty (CRPC): this Wednesday it proposed a sentence of six months in prison against the three, a sentence which the interested parties accepted.

Only one of them was convicted of “serious abuse of an animal” and all were, however, found guilty of “gang theft” of the goat. Each of the three defendants was also each fined €500; they will be prohibited from appearing at the Ecomusée de la Bintinais and from carrying a weapon for two years. The public prosecutor, however, considered that it was not necessary to order their immediate incarceration. They will therefore soon be summoned by a sentence enforcement judge (JAP) to serve it in an alternative form to incarceration.
