This weekend, the Women traveled to Quarouble to compete in the regional final of the Coupe de France. At the end of a serious match from the Maritimes, they won and advanced, for the first time in the history of the women's section, to the 1st federal round (0-4).
Corentin Hamez, the Senior Women's coach, shares his analysis of the match: “We were expecting a real cup match, and it was. Quarouble didn't give up from start to finish and made our qualification difficult. We asked the group to take this match seriously, because in the cup anything is possible. This match had a special flavor, because a qualification at this stage had never happened before. Our players were able to do the work on the pitch, taking the game into their own hands, adding the Dunkirk values that we have applied since the start of the season, and above all by remaining serious. If we talk about content, it’s not our best match, but the qualification is there, and that’s the main thing.”
Arnold Garez, head of the women's section, played a unifying role before the match. “The Maritimes have achieved a first objective set at the start of the season. The girls and the staff approached the match with the greatest seriousness, everyone was aware of the importance of this match for the club. I reminded them during the pre-match chat that we had to take this step to give credibility to our project. The club puts us in the best possible conditions, and it is important, through our results, to return it to them. The group responded.” This first objective achieved shows the development of the women's section and the new state of mind established.
A next round to continue to demonstrate the capabilities of our Maritimes. “We will wait for the draw, hoping to be able to play a good poster. In any case, they will approach this match with the same determination and the same desire as for the previous rounds, because the Coupe de France is always a special adventure.
This victory marks the start of preparation for the next round. The entire staff works hard every day to make this group as efficient as possible.
