This November 14 and 15, employees of the Cherbourg-en-Cotentin naval base, in Manche, will have to test their security protocols, according to information fromActu.fr.
Indeed, the crisis organization, planned if a radiological emergency situation were to arise, will be tested. This will therefore be an opportunity for the naval base teams to carry out the multiple training sessions that they have already been able to carry out before this full-scale exercise.
A two-stage test scenario, at the Cherbourg naval base
Whether on the civilian or military side, no one is aware of the scenario imagined for the purposes of this exercise. On the other hand, the latter will take place in two stages. First of all, the soldiers of the national navy will have to implement the internal emergency plan, within the confines of the naval base. It is then that the “Special intervention plan” (PPI) will be implemented by the prefect of Manche.
The planned scenario will take place in a nuclear installation in Homet. The primary purpose of this structure is to dismantle submarines equipped with nuclear propulsion. Also, the FR-Alert system, which allows alert notifications to be sent to residents' mobile phones, will be tested by the prefecture.
