The CE2 students of Bouellesnear Neufchâtel-en-Bray (Seine-Maritime) joined their new school at the start of the September school year, just like their teacher, Angèle Bénard.
Together, they discovered the project of the Solidarité Défense de Paris association, which consists of collecting children's drawings for soldiers on mission.
For 2024, 13,500 packages for soldiers
“These are then included in a Christmas package sent to French soldiers who are on external missions, but also for those who patrol in France and in Guyana. In 2023, 42,000 drawings arrived from 800 different schools. For 2024, 13,500 packages have been made with more than 40,000 drawings,” recalls Catherine Cristien, defense correspondent at Neuville-Ferrières.
This is the 5th year that the Bouelles school has taken on this project.
It must be completed within one month, after the start of the school year. Thanks to Angèle Bénard.
A return from the soldiers
The children were very interested in the activities of soldiers in operation and the debate even shifted to the Second World War, in addition to the discovery of certain objects that soldiers may receive.
Defense solidarity, how does it work?
The Solidarité Défense association is made up of soldiers and civilians. For more than 30 years, its aim has been to support injured soldiers and bereaved families during external or internal operations (Opex, Opint). One of the best-known actions is the Christmas package intended for soldiers who do not return during the holidays. Schools, town halls or associations can participate in this operation, in particular by sending children's drawings in the packages. Each year, around 14,000 packages are made at Les Invalides by volunteers. http://www.solidarite-defense.org
All that remains is for them to send a little note or a simple email to the children, who will be happy to see that their drawing arrived safely, because they did not fail to put their first name and their school on the back of their work.
A nice gesture that will definitely warm the hearts of the soldiers.
