A tweet from Sandrine Rousseau, on the oppression of Iranian and Afghan women, sparked a new outcry on social networks. « Our body, and everything we put – or not – into it, belongs to us. Strength to Iranian women, to Afghan women, to all those who suffer oppression »wrote the environmentalist MP on X, in reaction to the gesture of a young Iranian woman who undressed in front of her university in Tehran. A sign of protest that has gone viral, while the Iranian theocratic regime imposes a strict dress code and the wearing of the veil on women.
Her post quickly sparked a reaction on the web, like Sophia Aram: « This tweet is a shame. »reacted the comedian severely. At issue, we understand implicitly: the fact of putting in the same bag the oppression of women who refuse to wear the Islamic veil, as in Iran and Afghanistan, and the restrictions on the wearing of the veil in certain Western countries.

Internet users denounce a promotion of the veil
« Put on the same level the girls who pose as martyrs because they are not granted the right to break the rules of the republic in the name of their imaginary little bitch and the real Iranian martyrs, who die, before our eyes, you won't see more disgusting »protests another Internet user on X. Others also recall that Sandrine Rousseau had declared : « There are plenty of motivations for wearing a veil, and there are some who wear veils that are just an embellishment really. »
This is not the first time that the comedian and the MP have clashed on social networks over the issue of the veil. This was already the case this summer, during the Paris Olympics, regarding the wearing of a veil by a Dutch athlete on a medal ceremony podium: “ When the Revolutionary Guards explain to you that you have no right to make fun of the way an athlete ties her hijab », had notably criticized Sophia Aram against Sandrine Rousseau, who had criticized the comedian for a joke about the athlete's veil.
