Two young 21-year-old firefighters lost their lives in a serious road accident that occurred during the night from Friday to Saturday, in Pezou, near Vendôme (Loir-et-Cher), outside of their duty. Their car was found by two hikers near the D34, overturned on its roof, after hitting a tree and ending its journey below, against the wall of a residential annex, the prefecture said. The accident was only discovered around 10:20 a.m.
The victims were both involved in the Pezou volunteer firefighters. One of them, a professional firefighter at the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS) of Loir-et-Cher, was also affiliated with the CPI of Pezou. The second victim worked as a municipal employee in the town, in addition to his duties as a volunteer firefighter.
The Loir-et-Cher gendarmerie reports that the vehicle continued straight after a sharp turn, violently hitting a tree before tipping over below the road. According to the prefecture, “the vehicle ended its journey below the roadway, against the wall of an annex to a residential house”. The accident was not heard by the residents of the house, who were located a good distance from the annex and did not suspect any nocturnal event.
