Martine Vassal reaffirms her commitment to protect the people of Provence

Martine Vassal expresses her commitment to the protection of Arlesians and Camargue residents, and to the completion of urgent work to strengthen the dikes of the Petit Rhône by the Interregional Joint Syndicate for the Development of the Dikes of the Rhône Delta and the Sea (Symadrem).

The President of the Bouches-du-Rhône Departmental Council and Lucien Limousin, Deputy Vice-President for Agriculture and Territories outside the Aix--Provence Metropolis, affirm their full support for the new Grand Delta Appeal which will be launched this November 4 to insist on the urgency of carrying out the priority work to strengthen and raise the dikes formalized in the Rhône Plan and thus ensure optimal security for populations and property. 6,000 residents are exposed to the risk of flooding located on the left bank of the Petit Rhône

Martine Vassal calls “all partners, first and foremost the State, to respect the commitments made and the essential solidarity between the upstream and downstream territories and the right and left banks of the Rhône to guarantee a global response to the exposure to flood risk.“The Department indicates that it has committed from 2019 to financing this work to strengthen the dikes of the Petit Rhône to the tune of 15.55 million euros.

We cannot abandon the Arlesians and the Camargue people. On the contrary, we must redouble our efforts and keep our commitments to protect this territory and its inhabitants while nature continues to remind us of our fragility in the face of the elements and the effects of climate change. The Department will always be alongside the people of Arles and the Camargue to guarantee their safety and to preserve this precious environment.“, declares Martine Vassal.
