A rainy month of October in Creuse but no broken record

Umbrellas were out during the month of October 2024 in Creuse. If the amount of rain was “above normal by 187%” according to Météo , there was no rainfall record recorded. Since 1958 and the beginning of records, this monthOctober 2024 in Creuse ranks fourth among the rainiest Octobers according to Jérôme Lefere, meteorologist in in charge of forecasts in New Aquitaine. This Météo France employee recorded several precipitation rates in Creuse:

  • 247 millimeters at Royères
  • 214 millimeters at Gentioux
  • 189 millimeters in Bourganeuf
  • 164 millimeters at La Souterraine
  • 132 millimeters in Saint-Loup

On average, 160 millimeters of rain fell during this month of October in Creuse compared to around 70 millimeters in other years. However, this figure is not a record: in 1960, 281 millimeters of rain were recorded. All this rain didn't affect thesunshine which is average.

Temperatures above seasonal norms

If the amount of rain that fell in Creuse this month of October does not surprise Jérôme Lefere. The meteorologist in Bordeaux in charge of forecasts in New Aquitaine points to an elevation of “2.45 degrees” of the average temperature in Creuse for the month of October. Result : October 2024 is the 7th warmest October. “When we look at the list of the hottest months, we find almost the last decade”, underlines Jérôme Lefere who has not observed any record temperatures so far.

Wind gust record for Guéret

Another notable fact in this month of October 2024: the passage of storm Kirk. “At that time, we can have storms but they arrive a little later”indicates Jérôme Lefere, meteorologist in Bordeaux in charge of forecasts in New Aquitaine. He noted winds around 90 kilometers/hour: “95 for Felletin, 74 in La Courtine, almost 90 in Bourganeuf”. “We also had 91 km/h in Guéret and that’s a record for the month of October”he says.
