Ecological decor, reduction of waste… She wants to decarbonize culture, in -Atlantique

Can culture afford everything? Carine Cailleau, scenery painter from the La Machine company, asked herself this question. At the origin of the La Luciole association, which she chairs, this young and recent Machecoulaise formed a collective of scenographers and artist-builders, with this common objective: the decarbonization of culture.

Sometimes, we spend months and thousands of euros creating ephemeral stage displays. The environmental issue remains absent,” explains Carine Cailleau. Having gone through the Écossolies incubator in , she received training there for her social and solidarity economy project.

Building sets in an ecological way

The association's mission is to design and build sets in an ecological manner, supporting show designers. It also wants to help them reduce waste from their decor and their carbon footprints, by favoring reuse and bio-sourced materials, such as wood, hemp or recycled textiles. Already a partner of the artistic and cultural resource center of Montaigu (Vendée), the collective is starting to create its own productions, but we would like to get closer to the territory, and why not in Machecoul”, specifies the president. The goal is to host artistic residencies to follow the production of sets from A to Z.

La Luciole, winner of the Ademe Pays de la circular economy call for projects, will be awarded its prize on Wednesday November 6, in . A fair will be organized to present all the selected projects.
