“They burned”: Marine Tondelier escapes any required punishment after a quarrel with Aude winegrowers

No conviction in sight for the environmental leader. No sentence was requested against the national secretary of the Ecologists Marine Tondelier who appeared Friday in , after complaints of defamation from two winegrowers from Aude.

On June 12, 2023, Marine Tondelier and the environmentalist MP Sandrine Rousseau were attacked by angry Aude winegrowers who wanted to prevent them from accessing a wine estate to meet activists.

“I came to Aude to support the opponents of the Fontiers-Cabardès golf course project (…) When I got out of the car, I saw tractors blocking and things ready to burn (…) I was insulted, treated like bitch, go make the soup! », declared Marine Tondelier at the helm. “Sandrine Rousseau didn’t understand anything. I told him: They don't want to let us through Robert's house, they burned his barn “, she added.

According to Marine Tondelier's lawyer, Tewfik Bouzenoune, she said “they burned” overall. This “they” meant “we” and did not accuse anyone in particular, according to him. However, this assertion by Marine Tondelier and the publication on her Twitter account (now X) of a video of the altercation of June 12 led the two winegrowers to file a complaint.

“The day after the broadcast, I was stopped in the street and asked: Were you the one who burned down the cellar? We are faced with people who master communication. And my own image? “, declared one of the two winegrowers. “I was even called an arsonist,” explained the second complainant, who “thinks I am defending a just cause, that of Aude viticulture.” “I will never go burn down a winegrower’s cellar,” he added.

For prosecutor Éric Camous, who did not request a sentence, “fixing the cursor is difficult, it will determine what can be said by a political person”. The criminal court will deliver its judgment on November 29.
