At the beginning of October, Belgium delivered medical equipment to Lebanese public hospitals for an amount of 150,000 euros. On Wednesday, the government announced the sending of medical equipment worth 100,000 euros as well as accommodation and shelter capacities for an amount of 80,000 euros, via the B-FAST mechanism.
The two million announced Thursday should make it possible to meet basic needs and guarantee income for the most vulnerable, in particular the more than 1.5 million displaced people and refugees who have been driven from their homes by the war. ?
In Paris, Minister Vandenbroucke calls for respect for international humanitarian law and demands an immediate end to attacks against humanitarian workers and medical establishments. Belgium also calls for an immediate ceasefire, condemns Israel’s attacks against UNIFIL peacekeepers in southern Lebanon and calls for the full implementation of UN Security Council resolutions aimed at guaranteeing the territorial integrity of Lebanon and the functioning of its institutions.
“It is important that the spiral of violence ends quickly and that Lebanon can emerge from the current societal, social and economic crisis. This will only be possible with the support of the international community,” comments Minister Vandenbroucke , quoted in a press release.
