Dakar, Oct 19 (APS) – Congolese rapper Jessy B, 2023 winner of the Radio international (RFI) discovery prize, performed Friday at the French Institute in Dakar, a very committed concert which sets the tone for her tour called “Africa Tour”.

The Senegalese capital was the first stop on this continental journey which started with the green theater of the French institute.

The Dakar public, small in number but very warm, was treated to a mixture of committed pieces and egotrips, such as “dégatnadégat”, the artist’s anthem, or even “Maïmouna”, a tribute to his late little girl. “courageous and brave” sister.

The Congolese rapper also wanted to unveil some new releases on stage, “symbolic” titles including “Meilleur”, “First class”, “Petit Paradis”, “Héros”.

“I opted for a mixture of pieces that the public knew for some, and others not, because they are exclusives for a future project,” explained the rapper, who is discovering Senegal and Africa for the first time. Senegalese public.

Jessy B, holding a flag of her country, started her show with the title “Hero”, composed a few months ago to say that “every person is an everyday hero”. As if he wanted to touch humanity deep within every music lover with positive vibes. A good introduction to interact with the very colorful audience made up of several nationalities, including many Congolese nationals who came to support their compatriot.

The song “Heroes”, originally, was dedicated to people with disabilities, but Jessy B ultimately made it a general homage, based on the fact that “all human beings are everyday heroes”, a way of say that “whatever the difficulties of life, you must continue to believe in them”.

“If you believe it’s impossible / if you believe it’s a problem / but if you believe, do your best / And if you believe, believe in the impossible / Hero…”, chants the artist in a very rhythmic flow that keeps the audience in suspense.

The pieces then follow one another with the trio of musicians who accompanies her, including her father the rapper King Biggerman, the rapper enhancing her performance with egotrips which allow her to reveal herself a little more.

With “dégatnadégat”, whose refrains are repeated in chorus, Jessy B becomes more one with the public, in accordance with the spirit of this text, symbol of an art whose ambition is to impact the world.

Jessy B, Diatsona Biggerman Jessica Francia in civil status, takes the opportunity to deliver messages of peace in support of the Democratic Republic of Congo, a neighboring country and to all countries at war.

“They say we don’t make fun of people smoking at our neighbor’s house. I am from Congo Brazzaville, but it is Congo in general, it is Africa and the world. These are situations that affect human people very naturally. I am very young, but very sensitive to everything that is happening in the world […]it’s my contribution as a very committed artist,” she said at the end of her concert.

The 2023 winner of the RFI discovery prize calls herself a spokesperson for the youth for whom she sings, in particular for those who are sometimes very disoriented, and not very informed.

“My main target is young people, I’m young, I could sing anything, but I might as well tell them what’s happening in the world, so I take advantage of my music to send messages,” she adds.

Born into a family of rappers, Jessy B is first and foremost the heir to an artistic universe whose influence has been confirmed by the RFI discovery prize, arrived as “international recognition” of work started with her father since he was 5 years old.

This reward allowed him to discover Senegal for the first time, to go to France, to make his art and his music known, to export them internationally.

”Il [le prix découvertes RFI] allowed me to reaffirm myself because when you are a young rap artist, it is not easy in this world of culture led by men. Because it’s not always easy for a woman and especially for a young woman. This means that you need a lot of monitoring and support to avoid doing anything,” she confesses.

One proof among a thousand that Jessy B benefits from good supervision? She has just obtained a degree in marketing and commercial action. Which could always be useful in a world of showbiz that is still so ruthless.

“I can be a hero to all these people who follow me,” says the rapper, singer, dancer and choreographer, talking about her discovery prize. What is certain is that she “jailed” Dakar and its French institute for her first in Senegal.

The rapper Gun Mor, whose real name is Momar Ndiaye, one of the rising figures of Senegalese rap, opened for the Jessy B concert who will perform in Saint-Louis this Saturday.

The artist will then continue his African journey through Cotonou (Benin), N’Djamena (Chad), Goma Amani, Goma, Bukavu (DRC) and Kigali (Rwanda), from October 24 to November 22.
