Postponement of legislative elections – The Party for Renovation and Emergence of Senegal makes this proposal

What reception will the political class and particularly the government give to this proposal? We will know in the days to come.

Whatever the case, the head of this political formation (editor’s note: Party for the Renovation and Emergence of Senegal), Oumar Top has arguments.

Indeed, through a press release that dakarposte…post in full below (in PDF version), he notes in particular that the floods which hit the regions located on the Senegal River will deprive a large number of voters of their citizen right to vote. Because a lot of infrastructure has been destroyed or will remain underwater for a long time and populations have been displaced. The victims of these floods would undoubtedly like to express their choice through the ballot box, but many will be forced to postpone their civic duty due to lack of polling stations or the possibility of traveling. It is true that floods are a natural phenomenon but should we in such circumstances condemn a part of the voters from the possibility of exercising their civic rights?

These are, among others, the arguments developed by Oumar Top. It remains to be seen whether he will be heard.

The next few days will edify us well!
