Each bastide has its characteristics. That of Villeneuve is renowned for its size and the fact that it is built on both sides of the Lot. Like the others, she will be celebrating throughout the weekend.
The bastides are a strong symbol of the identity of the department with more than forty spread across the entire territory. Founded between the 12th and 15th centuries, the bastides are a concentrate of the art of living in Lot-et-Garonne, architectural gems which make up the identity of our department and play an essential role in its tourist attractiveness.
This weekend, at the initiative of the departmental tourism committee, 25 of them are in the spotlight throughout the 47, and in particular that of Villeneuve-sur-Lot, “the most beautiful river bastide in the Lot- e-Garonne” according to some. It must be said that with its size and its location on both sides of the Lot, a unique case, it really stands out from the crowd and knows how to get noticed.
To highlight the richness of this historical heritage and support tourist numbers during the autumn holidays, the departmental council and Tourisme Lot-et-Garonne have set up an entertainment program this weekend.
A weekend of diverse and varied activities
Cultural, musical, gastronomic and sporting activities, investigation game from bastide to bastide, special quests, Tèrra Aventura treasure hunt: the program is rich and varied, designed to attract a regional audience while benefiting the inhabitants as well as ‘to late-season holidaymakers.
For Villeneuve and Sainte-Livrade-sur-Lot, the Villeneuve-Vallée du Lot tourist office took charge of organizing these festivities.
Anne Delliaux is the president of the tourist office. “We have pulled out all the stops in order to offer a rich and varied program during this first autumn holiday weekend. This is with the aim of promoting as much as possible and introducing the historical heritage local to as many people as we have decided that all the activities offered will be free. But for the workshops, it is more than recommended to register with the tourist office. These workshops, which take place throughout the. Saturday day are done in small groups of around ten people, this is the reason for this registration”.
So, no hesitation, today and tomorrow are the opportunity to (re)discover all the richness of the territory and its history.
