Lucie Castets will ultimately not be a candidate in

Lucie Castets announced this Friday that she would not be a candidate in the partial legislative election for the 1st constituency of Isère. She was expected to replace Hugo Prevost.

“I’m not going,” Lucie Castets decided this Friday, October 18. The New Popular Front (NFP) candidate for Matignon will ultimately not run in the partial legislative election in Isère, in . According to her, “the conditions were not met” to maintain her candidacy.

“What was proposed to me did not allow me, in my opinion, to continue to act as a link for the left” but “the person matters little,” assured Lucie Castets. “We must do everything so that the left wins this constituency again” straddling Grenoble and part of its northern suburbs.

The 37-year-old senior civil servant did not wish to sit within the La insoumise group in the Assembly, but LFI had made it a non-negotiable condition to grant her the nomination. She would then have run for the seat left vacant by Hugo Prévost, who resigned his mandate last week after accusations of “serious acts of a sexual nature” against him.

When considering her replacement, the Lucie Castets option was quickly put forward but the person concerned immediately warned that she was “ready to help but not under any conditions”. In particular, she wanted to keep the possibility of joining, as a deputy, “the group most representative of the diversity and unity of the left” in the Assembly.

She then spoke of the environmental group, which brings together the Greens, members of Génération.s and former Insoumis rebels, such as the deputy François Ruffin.

The vote must be held within three months

Thursday, the Socialist Federation of Isère designated departmental councilor Amandine Germain as a candidate for the NFP nomination for the partial legislative election, which must be held within three months.

In a press release, its members had however left the door open to Lucie Castets “in the event that (she) should ultimately be the representative of all the components of the NFP”. Which is no longer relevant.

This Isère constituency was won by LFI as part of the founding agreement of the NFP, just after the dissolution of the National Assembly on June 9. Hugo Prevost was elected in a triangular election with only 1,300 votes ahead of the Macronist candidate, former minister Olivier Véran.
