What program for the potato holidays?

The October holidays begin this evening for Geneva schoolchildren and as with every school holiday, departures abroad are on the rise. Favorite destinations and non-exhaustive overview of possible activities.

Ready for takeoff: many Genevans take advantage of the fall holidays to get a change of scenery. 57,000 passengers are expected this Friday at Cointrin airport, and the same on Sunday. A significant number but which does not equal the end-of-year peaks.

The Genevans’ favorite destinations are a few hours’ flight away. The Swiss company records strong demand towards Southern Europe: Athens, Porto, Lisbon, Malaga, Valencia, but also Marrakech. London is also popular all year round, including for the potato holidays. At Easyjet the most popular destinations from Geneva airport are Greece and Spain as well as Venice, Naples, Hamburg and Berlin for urban getaways.

On the rail side, the CFF has not planned an additional train as they do for the Ascension holidays, for example. If the night trains are full, there is still room for all daytime destinations.

For those who wish to visit Switzerland, a marathon of Valais flavors is organized on Saturday October 19 departing from Sion. In Château-d’Oex it is possible to participate in a pumpkin hunt until October 27.

In Geneva, the Museum of and History offers, as every year, a program for children aged 3 and over. The 2024 edition focuses on the theme of the body through activities, readings, music and films.

Geneva’s toy libraries offer entertainment for families. The Grand Théâtre opens its doors to children and their companions. Visits to the building and a singing workshop are on the program from October 22 to 25.
