A couple eats mushrooms from their garden and ends up in the hospital

According to The Mountaina couple thought they were doing the right thing by eating mushrooms that grew in their garden on Wednesday in Beauregard-l’Évêque (Puy-de-Dôme). But after cooking and eating them, the two individuals had to be hospitalized due to vomiting and diarrhea.

Despite the prevention messages sent by the authorities during this period of mushroom picking, these sixty-year-olds had nothing to do and wanted to try the experience. They were badly offended and they must regret having dared to take such a risk after their stays in the hospitals of Clermont-Ferrand and Thiers.

A mistake that could have been fatal

Convinced that they had picked up edible mousserons and rosés-des-prés, the two victims thought they were enjoying a good meal. But digestive problems quickly manifested themselves. Unable to name the mushroom she had ingested, the sixty-year-old called on a family member to take a photo of a specimen in her garden and send it to the poison control center for identification.

In reality, they were white lepiotes, very toxic for the liver. The husband was also hospitalized and two antidotes were issued to the poisoned patients. Placed in the intensive care unit at the hospital, they were able to come out after a week.
