SENEGAL-INDUSTRIE / Experts call for creating links between professional training and businesses – Senegalese Press Agency

Diamniadio, Oct 17 (APS) – Experts recalled, Thursday, in Diamniadio (west), the need to reform vocational training in Senegal by adapting it to the needs of companies in terms of labor.

“We must consider governance” which can bring together the public sector, the private sector and training establishments, proposed the general director of the African Refining Company, Mamadou Abib Diop.

He spoke on a panel on governance, during the general meetings of industry, commerce and SMEs.

Finance specialists, members of the Senegalese private sector and representatives of partner countries and organizations of the State of Senegal take part in this two-day meeting chaired by the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Serigne Guèye Diop.

The representative in Senegal of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, Malick Sy, focused on the connection that must exist between workforce training and businesses.

Industry and commerce must also modernize, he suggested.

”Quality human resources are the basis of economic development,” underlined Mr. Sy, noting ”the weak involvement of local authorities in economic development initiatives” in Senegal.

The Minister of Industry and Commerce, Serigne Guèye Diop, insisted on the need to properly train farmers, for example in agricultural techniques, to make them productive throughout the year.

Farmers need to know how to use the computer and other agricultural equipment, Diop added.
