elections in Fontivillié, after ten resignations from the municipal council

We will vote again at the beginning of December 2024 in Fontivillié, which currently operates with nine of the nineteen elected to the municipal council, following around ten resignations. A first was recorded in October 2021 and two others in January 2023. The last seven followed one another between July and September 2024, including that of the third assistant, Claudine Maillou (we asked her, as well as two other resigning elected officials; none wished to comment on the reasons for their departure from the municipal council).

For the mayor, Thierry You, the resignations are not the result of a group movement, even if he sees, for some, a common point. In 2023, “there were two resignations, this time linked to a disagreement. Projects presented, but not accepted by the municipal council. I remind you that it is not me who makes decisions alone, but the council as a whole. I am only an administrator of the board’s decisions and I do not feel myself to be an actor in these resignations. »

“I personally experience it as a disappointment”

For the mayor, this is mainly due to the wear and tear of time. “There are frustrations, partly due to the lack of thanks from the population. We rarely practice cuddle therapy, yet it’s nice for an elected official to receive thanks. I also believe that the company ensures that we have everything, straight away, that its projects are completed quickly and without too many constraints. All this means that sometimes it bugs, and it doesn’t work. »

As for the simultaneous resignations that have occurred in recent months: “These are councilors who have not attended council meetings for several months. I do not believe that these resignations were made based on a grouping of ideas different from those we have been holding for four years. I personally experience it as a disappointment. When you are elected, you work for the municipality more than for yourself. But as I only look at the glass half full, I think it could be a new impetus, with new ideas, eighteen months before the end of the mandate. »

For the mayor, the municipality continues to function. “There is extra work for those who stay. The obstacle in projects is more budgetary than decision-making, we lose allocations. These departures also pose a democratic problem, we lose diversity when we decide with nine people instead of nineteen. »

“All applications are welcome”

The elections will take place on 1is and December 8. Applications do not seem to be pouring in en masse. “We looked at people likely to be candidates, we have not received a response to date, indicates the mayor. All applications are welcome. Within the council, we were not all going in the same direction, everyone had their own sensibilities. There was no opposition, but discussions. Opposition is natural. » Submission of applications for the first round on November 12, 13 and 14 at the prefecture.
