“I was made redundant and I always loved being with children”… Aveyron is organizing itself in the face of the shortage of childminders

the essential
The department is looking for new childminders in anticipation of a future mass retirement. An information meeting was organized this Wednesday in Villefranche-de-Rouergue, to introduce people to the profession.

The situation is difficult in Aveyron. More than 47% of childminders are over 55 years old. “It’s a tense situation for the profession,” explains the representative of early childhood relays. In Villefranche-de-Rouergue, as in the entire region, there is a great risk of finding yourself in a shortage of childminders within a few years.

To remedy this, Ouest Aveyron community organized this Wednesday, October 16, an information meeting on the profession. On site, representatives of the different players in the profession were able to discuss aid, training, but also talk about the profession itself to try to inspire people. Around twenty people responded, the vast majority of them women.

A recruiting profession

In partnership with Travail and Avenir Actif, many were present for job searches or retraining. “I was made redundant and I always loved being with children. So I said to myself why not learn more about the job before starting,” explains one of the participants. Others have already passed their CAP and are inquiring about further training. “Do we have to take all the accreditation tests if we already have our CAP?” asks the only man in the room. “There are several exemptions depending on the level of study,” explains the trainer.

Whether technical or more general questions about the profession, the organizing team did its best to answer. After an hour of presentation of the different methods of becoming a childminder, each partner of the meeting answered the questions of the assembly. “We are going to divide ourselves into several centers so that we can discuss more freely.” The next meeting, organized by Maternal and Child Protection (PMI), will take place on November 15 on the subject of approval, a mandatory element to be able to welcome children.
