launch of a project to valorize renewable resources and waste into biosourced products

The Gaston Berger University (UGB) of Saint-Louis Louis hosted on Tuesday the launching ceremony of the PEA project and the UNESCO Chair in Sustainable Engineering of Biosourced Products (IDBIO). Supported by the Gaston Berger University in Saint-Louis, Senegal and the National Institute of Applied Sciences (INSA) in , this initiative aims to structure a professional training sector, the promotion of sustainable innovation and the creation of job.

Executed over a period of four years thanks to funding from the French Development Agency (AFD) and the National Research Agency (ANR), this dynamic encourages the emergence of new sectors for the valorization of biosourced products and renewable resources. and waste, in support of the local and sustainable economy.

“The project will try to give a second life to agricultural and agri-food products and by-products by transforming them for applications in different areas,” informed Joseph Bassama, PEA IDBIO Project Co-coordinator.

“The chair will carry out various activities linked to the training of teachers and students through the creation of a master’s degree, but also all innovation activities aimed at private companies in the agricultural sector in Senegal and West Africa”, added the teacher-researcher at UGB.

He spoke of the stimulation and strengthening of “South-South links” with a view to “finding clear solutions to protect our environment. According to Mr. Bassama, the new dynamic will act on the creation of wealth through business development and the integration of young people.
