Around 500 firefighters mobilized in Haute- to simulate a devastating earthquake

This is an exercise that will be carried out over several days and in conditions close to reality. From this Tuesday, October 15, 2024, 500 firefighters from around twenty departmental fire and rescue services (SDIS) will meet in Haute- to participate in an earthquake simulation. Among them, 9 drone units, 15 dog units, Young Firefighters (JSP) and former reservist firefighters, according to Lark.

A base camp and a PC will be set up in Aixe-sur-Vienne to coordinate the teams, who will work in total autonomy, indicates Bleu Limousin.

Search and care for victims

The planned scenario: “An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 to 6.4 in the vicinity of with deaths, numerous injuries, hundreds of displaced people and several hundred houses damaged, some of which partially collapsed”. The missions will therefore be the search for victims, the care of deceased or injured people, the management of displaced people, etc.

The teams will work under the same conditions as during an international intervention under the aegis of the United Nations. They should follow a cycle of 5 hours of intervention, followed by 5 hours of rest according to the protocol of the international organization INSARAG. The exercise is scheduled to last until Thursday October 17.
