The equestrian brigade of the municipal policies Saint-Germain-en-Laye () was officially established in December 2023, and it seems, for the moment, to be completely satisfactory.

The City has therefore decided to renew, until December 31, 2024the agreement – signed with the Republican Guard – which allowed it to provide its police with this new unit.

“A fairly obvious deterrent dimension”

“For the moment, theexperimentation is rather satisfactory and not only for young audiences, welcomes Mayor Arnaud Péricard. Every time I saw the brigade in front of schools, on the RER especially on Fridays at the end of the day, there is a dimension of deterrence which is quite obvious. »

“This is an experiment that we wish to extend and this does not exempt us from the feedback that we will provide when this renewal expires. »

Arnaud Péricard, mayor of Saint-Germain-en-Laye

Thanks to this agreement, unique in passed between the General Directorate of the National Gendarmerie, the municipality can have two horses from the Goupil district of Saint-Germain-en-Laye,

Three times a week

The animals pass under the colors of the municipal police three times a week for patrols lasting up to three hours. The agreement stipulates that the City cannot carry out more than eighteen hours of patrol per week. Two other horses are available “in reserve” if needed.

“Today, we are going to say that all the indicators are green, whether on the side of the City or on the side of the Republican Guard,” underlines William Petrovic, deputy mayor in charge of Public Security and Memory. We are quite satisfied with this partnership, and both parties want to continue. »

“It seems that residents are also satisfied with this service. Now we need to look a little closer at the pluses and minuses. We will do a more complete assessment. »

Towards a rise in power?

Today, three municipal police officers have received training allowing them to join this equestrian brigade. The unit could increase in power. In any case, this seems to be the wish of the municipality.

“We are more in the desire to develop the system. So, now, the challenge will be to have a little more presence and a little more geographical influence. »

Arnaud Péricard, mayor of Saint-Germain-en-Laye

A deployment detailed by William Petrovic. “We would like to go to the residential areas, because we are always faced with scourge of burglaries. The idea is to be a little more present where we don’t have a camera. »

€80 per horse and per day of employment

The provision of horses is not free. Thus, within the framework of the agreement, the City undertakes to pay €80 per animal and per day of employment, i.e. €1,920 per month for maximum use. Note that between the two conventions, the price per horse has simply doubled.

This lump sum covers the costs farriery which are carried out by the Republican Guard and veterinary care, unless the latter are the consequence of events occurring during the provision of horses for the benefit of the municipal police.
