Didier Deschamps, the audio recording that shocked

The coach of the team is still talked about during this international gathering. A very surprising recording has been revealed.

It’s an open secret:
Didier Deschamps is not the most offensive technician in history. Renowned for his legendary pragmatism, the coach of the France team has often been singled out for his unspectacular game plan and his conservative precepts.

We must believe, however, that this tenacious cliché has not always animated Didier Deschamps. In the first part of his coaching career, the Basque even seemed driven by much more attractive ideas in terms of the game. His brief life as a consultant is there to remind us of this.

When Deschamps called for an offensive game…

This week, After Foot revealed an extract from its show after a match between the French team and the Netherlands during Euro 2008. While Raymond Domenech’s Blues had been swept away by the Oranje (1-4 ), Deschamps, then a columnist for the program, had let go of his thoughts in responding to Daniel Riolo.

“He who takes risks is rewarded,
he said. It’s always like that. In the Champions League, if you don’t play, you won’t pass. At some point, you have to think about creating problems for your opponent. You can get away with qualifying for an eighth or a quarter with a little success. But after a while, if you don’t go on the pitch looking to create problems for the opponent, you can’t, it doesn’t work. At some point, it’s the talent on the other side that will make the difference and that’s what happened tonight. »

Listening to the extract again more than 15 years later, Daniel Riolo did not hide his amazement. “It’s astonishing, incredible. I see that I haven’t varied much in my speech and what I like about football. It’s incredible what he says. The speech is crazy. Most of them have the same ideas before and after. We’re talking about vision of football, it’s still astonishing…”. A reaction shared by many observers.
