The entry of the Lotto Volley League teams into the competition was worth the detour since a clash between two flagships of the Belgian championship was on the menu: Maaseik hosted Roeselare. The two teams played in the playoff final a few months ago, allowing the Roulariens to once again claim the laurels.
Shock was rarely discussed, however, as Roeselare dominated its subject, leaving almost no chance for the Limburgers to express themselves and thus securing a deserved qualification for the quarters in three short sets: 17/25, 18/ 25, 19/25.
The other duel of the evening between elite teams was won by Menin after two contested rounds against a well-established Ghent team. The winners of the last Super Cup took the upper hand to also reach the quarters with a 3-1 victory: 25/21, 23/25, 25/19, 25/17.
Waremme, for his part, had to fight hard against Noorderkempen, resident of Nationale 1, but finally qualified in three sets (22/25, 19/25, 26/28), just like Achel with more ease against in Booischot.
As a reminder, Aalst won on Friday evening in Nivelles.
