First day of advance voting Saturday in New Brunswick | New Brunswick Elections 2024

Advance voting in the provincial elections takes place on Saturday in New Brunswick. A second day is planned for Tuesday.

New Brunswickers aged 18 and over can already go to the polls on Saturday, if their choice is made. Advance voting takes place from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the polling stations.

To find out the exact location of the offices in each constituency, the voter must consult the voter information card received by mail in the last few days, because this confirms that he or she is already registered on the electoral list.

Elections New Brunswick recommends bringing this card when voting. It will therefore not be necessary to present an identity document.

If a person arrives without this card or if they are not yet registered on the list, they must present identification documents indicating their name, signature and address.

Identification documents that are eligible include a driver’s license, lease, utility bill, health insurance card or student ID, among others.

The leaders of the two major parties will vote in advance on Saturday. The liberal leader Susan Holt will do so in his riding of Fredericton South—Silverwood and the outgoing Prime Minister, Blaine Higgs, will vote in his stronghold of Quispamsis.

He wants to encourage the population to vote and make the population aware of this option. Everyone should take the opportunity not to rush at the last minute, but to go to the polls and vote earlyassures the leader of the Progressive Conservatives.

Record advance voting in 2020

In the last provincial elections in 2020, advance voting broke a participation record. More than 133,000 people had voted in two days. In 2018, more than 88,000 voters went to the polls during advance voting.

According to Elections New Brunswick, it is difficult to predict the number of voters.

Over the past few elections, we have seen an increasing trend in the number of people who took advantage of the opportunity to vote in advance, including in our returning offices.

To date, 1,106 voters have voted by mail or submitted a request to vote by mail, says Elections New Brunswick.

This year, polling stations set up on various college and university campuses will allow students to vote, which was not the case in the last elections, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Between October 15 and 18, students will be able to vote for a candidate from the electoral district of their permanent residence or the one where they are pursuing their studies.

Remember that returning officers’ offices are open from Monday to Saturday and it is possible to vote throughout the electoral period by going there, even if it is in a region other than your original constituency.
