Postal sector in Senegal: towards structuring investments to revitalize La Poste

The Senegalese postal sector has been in decline for several years, due to its inadequacy to the demands and needs of the market. To remedy this situation, the new authorities organized, yesterday Thursday, October 10, in Dakar, a day of consultation on the prospects for the postal sector, in the context of emerging technologies and opening to competition.

At the opening of the proceedings, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Communication, Telecommunications and Digital Affairs, Fatou Bintou Ndiaye, announced the upcoming development of a strategy aimed at strengthening investments in favor of La Poste and improving its services for the period 2025-2029. The government of Senegal, aware of the issues in this sector and the challenges it represents, is firmly committed to “consolidating it through investments and targeted policies”, in perfect alignment with the 2030 postal vision, she said. made known. This initiative is part of the dynamic of “the development of a postal development strategy for the period 2025-2029”, she specified on the occasion of this consultation day organized by the Regulatory Authority. Telecommunications and Posts (ARTP). She added that “this strategy will make it possible to supervise postal activities in our country, while taking into account technological and digital developments specific to the sector, in accordance with the requirements of the global postal strategy”. At the dawn of this historic transformation, she stressed that “Senegal has all the assets to become a regional leader in the postal and logistics field, with a modern, efficient and inclusive network, capable of meeting the needs of our population. while contributing to the economic development of the country.” Keen to reassure as to the will of the new authorities, she specified that the government has developed an “inclusive bill taking into consideration the entire ecosystem, in accordance with the expectations of players in the sector”. This initiative demonstrates the government’s desire to “modernize the postal sector and encourage innovation”, while ensuring a balanced regulatory framework between competition, innovation and public service.
