Gérald Savard elected for a 7th term as prefecture of the MRC du Fjord-du-Saguenay

Gérald Savard was re-elected Tuesday for a seventh consecutive term as prefect of the MRC du Fjord-du-Saguenay.

Mr. Savard, who is also mayor of the Municipality of Bégin, has held the position of prefect since 2012. He succeeded Jean-Marie Claveau, who was elected deputy for Dubuc.

Contacted by Radio-Canada on Thursday evening, Gérald Savard said he was proud of his record over the last 12 years.

The MRC of the Fjord is growing a lot. It has changed a lot in terms of the environment, in terms of security, in terms of TNO. I want to continue. We have created a 2022-2032 tourism strategy, we are a winter destination, we are in the process of preparing a guide because we know that there are going to be mining or wind projects in the territory. Then we prepare in terms of social acceptancehe explained.

The MRC du Fjord-du-Saguenay brings together 13 municipalities: Bégin, Ferland-et-Boilleau, L’Anse-Saint-Jean, Larouche, Petit-Saguenay, Rivière-Éternité, Saint-Ambroise, Saint-Charles-de-Bourget, Saint- David-de-Falardeau, Saint-Fulgence, Saint-Félix-d’Otis, Saint-Honoré, Sainte-Rose-du-.

It also administered the unorganized territories (TNO) of Lac-Ministuk, Mont-Valin and Lalemant.

Economic development as a priority

Even if the region was not selected during a Hydro-Québec call for tenders last year, the establishment of a wind farm in the Monts-Valins sector continues to be a file priority in the eyes of the prefect.

He also says he is enthusiastic about welcoming and developing mining projects in the region.

I always say it, we are capable of having other mines and other wind turbines to create wealth, if we want to carry out projects in the territory and then give revenue to the 13 other municipalitiesadded Mr. Savard.

The council of the MRC du Fjord-du-Saguenay wishes to continue the work for the 2025 budget preparation and organizational strategic planning.

During this meeting, the mayor of Saint-David-de-Falardeau was also appointed as alternate prefect.

The administrative committee of the MRC of Fjord-du-Saguenay is also made up of Claude Riverin, mayor of Sainte-Rose-du-Nord, Hervé Simard, mayor of Ferland-et-Boilleau and Bruno Tremblay, mayor of Saint-Honoré.
