Discomfort among farmers in Meurthe-et-: “we are tired of going to our banker to beg”

The day after the farmers’ demonstration in , meeting with Jean-Marc Bastien, breeder in Vigneulles, established for 25 years.

A testimony to understand the anger of those who demonstrated this Wednesday October 9 in Nancy to demand a change of course in the management of agriculture. They notably denounced delays in the payment of subsidies from the common agricultural policy after a disastrous year in terms of weather.

It’s been 25 years since Jean-Marc Bastien took over the family business. He is a farmer and breeder in Vigneulles. He is passionate but today he is especially tired: “We have the impression that we are going to struggle for a whole winter, we can no longer see the end of it“. The big problems started at the Poussay fair last October. It has been raining for a year. Yields have been low, sowing has been difficult and harvests will be late. The hay and straw are not drying.

Add to that bluetongue which killed several animals. Jean-Marc Bastien also talks about the complexity of the rules and the urgent need for financing: “the banks follow but we are tired of going to see our banker begging for a cash loan, this would be my fourth“.

The agricultural unions will be received at the prefecture next week.
