SENEGAL-AFRICA-EUROPE-YOUTH / Thiès: 150 participants in the forum for the well-being of young people – Senegalese press agency

Thiès, Oct 9 (APS) – One hundred and fifty participants from twenty countries in Africa and Europe are taking part in the second edition of the forum for the well-being of young people, opened Wednesday in Thiès (west) at the initiative of the NGO Tostan.

This second edition of the forum for the well-being of fasts is being held on October 7, 8 and 9 under the theme: ”From genesis to youth, intergenerational meeting for the well-being of young people”.

“It’s an intergenerational meeting for the well-being of young people,” explained the program manager at the NGO TOSTAN, Malick Niang.

Today, Mr. Niang believes, “there should be this dialogue between these two generations in order to find the right balance and so that each can benefit from the other”.

”There are positive experiences among alumni, but also negative experiences. (…) they had to make mistakes and they could advise these young people based on their experiences,” argued Malick Niang.

He added that young people, for their part, “are endowed with talents and strengths, but lack experience and could benefit from their youth career”.

According to him, young people have assets such as technology and social networks, which the older generation did not have the chance to know.

So, he said, “everyone has their strengths, it is important that we are not in a position of conflict between these two generations”.

”It must rather be a position for fruitful dialogue around themes such as the generational aspect, climate change, and the well-being of these young people,” added Mr. Niang.

“(…) we have our traditional values that we must take into account, in order to move Africa forward,” suggested a Beninese participant, Gbaguidi Nancylie Prisile.

”Only culture will remain when we have lost everything. We must work with our elders, in order to learn from them everything that African society has put in place for its well-being and see how we can adapt them to the new generation,” pleaded the young Beninese woman.
