On the eve of the national shellfish farming meetings at the exhibition center in Valves (Morbihan), the regional round of French flaking championship stood at the port.
Three tests
Tuesday October 8, 2024an original competition took place under an arbor in the port of Vannes: a regional round of the scale competition. The candidates completed three tests: answering a questionnaire, opening oysters as quickly as possible and preparing a seafood platter.
“We have to open four dozen oysters as quickly as possible. I did a time of just over six minutes from memory,” reveals winner Benji Drevici.
Two brothers on the podium
Third and fourth in 2023, the two Drevici brothers gained places in 2024. Benji climbs to first place. Yann-Gé finishes third.
The two brothers offer oysters natural and fleshy in the Penerf river in Surzur. Their products can be found on their oyster farm and on the Parisian markets.
In 2023, Benjamin Gilard, sheller at La Flotte-en-Ré (Charente-Maritime), won the title at the port of Vannes. The 2024 winner, Benji Drevici, will travel to Paris in February for the national event.
Good to know. Shellfish tasting stands are available until 8 p.m. at the port.
