New fatal traffic accident in Paris. Tuesday, rue Manin, in the 19th arrondissement, just north of the Parc des Buttes-Chaumont, according to initial findings, a passer-by was crushed by a truck while she was using a pedestrian crossing to cross the road at around 10:30 a.m.
Firefighters and emergency services were dispatched to the scene as quickly as possible. But despite the intervention of emergency services, the victim died shortly after. The truck driver was taken into police custody. When tested, his blood alcohol and drug tests came back negative.
Another fatal accident in September
In mid-September, another road accident also claimed the life of a passer-by on Boulevard des Batignolles (17th century). A driver driving at very high speed, according to several witnesses at the scene, even rolled his vehicle after fatally mowing down a pedestrian. The car had finished its journey lying on its left side, a few centimeters from a computer store and near a pharmacy.
The victim was aged around sixty and lived in the district. The events took place in the middle of the day, around 1 p.m. According to witnesses at the scene, the motorist took the bus lane at high speed before losing control of his vehicle.
At the last report delivered at the end of August by the Regional and Interdepartmental Directorate for the Environment, Planning and Transport (Drieat) of Île-de-France, 18 people lost their lives between January and July 2024 in the streets of Paris. This was already four more deaths than for the same period last year.
