WEATHER – Hurricane Kirk, which threatened at the start of the week in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, has since been downgraded to category 1 (out of 5), with winds ranging from 119 to 153 km/h and causing minor damage to means. The result is now a very rainy episode forecast for Wednesday, October 9, associated with a “very strong gust of wind”announces Météo-France.

There are 25 departments between the west and the Ardennes, including 20 for rain-flooding, which will be placed on orange alert that day. Two departments have been placed on orange vigilance for « vent » in the Pyrenees and three others are still on orange alert for floods (Haute-Saône, -et- and Vosges).

A month of rain in one day is expected on Wednesday from to the Ardennes via the region. In the western departments such as Vendée and Loire-Atlantique, up to « 90 mm » Rain may fall locally: “an increase in the level of vigilance” is not excluded, warns Météo-France.

The rains will gradually ease but « 40 à 60 mm » are still expected in the Paris basin and Champagne-Ardennes and “30 to 50” near the Belgian border.

The five departments – Jura, Ain, Isère, Hautes-Alpes and Alpes-Maritimes – still on orange vigilance on Tuesday morning switched to yellow vigilance in the afternoon. The Alpes-Maritimes, however, remain “to watch”.

Two departments have been placed on orange vigilance for « vent » : the Pyrénées-Atlantique and the Hautes-Pyrénées, where gusts could reach “120 to 150 km/h on the summits and 100 to 110 km/h in the valleys and plains”.
