New public early childhood service from 2025 with the Departmental Council

New early childhood public service The Departmental Council plays an essential role in the establishment of the new early childhood public service, which will be operational from January 2025.

This initiative aims to meet the needs of families and improve the reception of young children in the region. During the discussion day on October 3, 2024, many stakeholders met to discuss the challenges and terms of this service.

The law for full employment, adopted in December 2023, redefined the management of early childhood in . Its aim is to identify the needs of children under 3 and their families, to inform and support parents, as well as to plan the development of childcare options. This service will be managed by local elected officials, family allowance funds and departmental councils, which implies close collaboration between these different actors.

The Departmental Council, through its Maternal and Child Protection (PMI) service, is committed to guaranteeing the quality of childcare facilities, training childminders and supporting new childcare projects. This includes nurseries, micro-nurseries, as well as childminders and childminder homes.

With around 6,700 births per year in Gard and a growing need for care, this reform is crucial to enable parents, particularly women, to reconcile professional life and parenthood. The Departmental Council, in collaboration with the CAF, strives to create an effective territorial network to respond to these challenges.
