The Gulf of Morbihan Regional Natural Park is celebrating its tenth anniversary!

Ten years! On October 2, 2014, the Gulf of Morbihan Regional Natural Park was born, after a very long gestation. The 50th French Regional Natural Park then obtained this approval after overcoming numerous obstacles. Starting with political disagreements among the municipalities involved.

Now there are 35 municipalities

who live within the perimeter of the Regional Natural Park. From October 12 to December 1, they will offer, with the associations, activities to celebrate this anniversary.

But behind the desire to celebrate, there also appears for the Park team, the desire to explain. “We are often asked: what is a Park for? We have an image deficit, admits Ronan Le Délézir, the president of the joint union which is leading the project. Ten years is the time to educate the public.”

“Not a bubble”

Because residents have their role to play in this Natural Park, alongside associations, professionals and elected officials. The Parc label means two things: that the territory covered is rich… but fragile. It is therefore important to preserve it. “We are not putting a bubble on a territory, however,” recalls Ronan Le Délézir. But a Park means that we are in an exceptional territory, let’s be attentive to that! »

The fear of putting a territory under surveillance is what held back some of the decision-makers of the time, particularly in the area of town planning and economic development. So, the Park is working on a search for balance to make the various activities coexist. In this attractive territory where the economy is developing, demographic pressure is increasing, tourism is thriving and where agriculture and shellfish farming require a preserved environment, the Park tries to reconcile everything.

“There is a real challenge of living together,” underlines Muriel Hascoët, the director of the mixed union. “The park is about compromising without compromising,” believes Ronan Le Délézir. We can both talk about biodiversity and agriculture. You have to meet eyes. We work with both the Bird Protection League and the Hunters’ Federation, the Morbihan Organic Farmers’ Group and the Chamber of Agriculture.”

To make these different actors work together, the Park adopts the slogan of its national federation: “Convince rather than constrain”. Convincing requires actions, like those that will be proposed during the two and a half months that the anniversary festivities will last.

The park encompasses municipalities of Gulf of Morbihan Agglomération, Auray Quiberon Terre Atlantique, Arc Sud Bretagne and Questembert community. Located within the perimeter, the municipalities of Larmor-Baden and Île-aux-Moines are not part of the Park.
