This is a project of the mayor’s mandate Joel Hamel in La Gouesnière (Ille-et-Vilaine), near Saint-Malo. La Ruche, an intergenerational room, named after the idea of Fabrice, the community leader, is finally seeing its work begin.

This room will be used both by young people and will also be a meeting place during the day for all those who wish to experience friendly moments with other residents and break the loneliness, particularly the elderly.

The building lacked stability

But the start of the project was eventful. Preliminary work began with the deconstruction of the building, which is when workers discovered asbestos.

That’s not all. They also noticed that the building lacked stability. They then injected resin into the ground to prevent subsidence of the land.

Today, these problems have been resolved and the restructuring work can finally begin. A large common room of 86 m2 which can be converted will be created by the end of February 2025.

This building has had various uses as a presbytery, ADMR premises, meeting room, music room and football school room.

A call for tenders relaunched

During the municipal council meeting in June 2024, calls for tenders were chosen, the painting and renovation lot did not find a buyer. It will be relaunched by dividing the two types of work, to expand to other craftsmen. This work cost €180,000. They are financed by the State, the Department, Saint-Malo Agglo and the municipality.
