06:42: Météo-France places three departments on orange rain-flood vigilance, Gard, Lozère and Ardèche due to a “large-scale and unusual” event. Météo France announces on its website:

Rainstorm degradation on a fairly large scale and unusual for the month of October (except for the Cévennes regions) in France. In certain departments currently placed on yellow vigilance for ‘Thunderstorms’ and/or ‘Rain-flooding’, this level of vigilance could be revised upwards.

From New Aquitaine to Center-Val de and the northeast quarter, the day is very rainy. The rains are temporarily sustained and sometimes mixed with thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon and evening south of the Garonne and from the north of Auvergne to Burgundy and Lorraine.

They are locally accompanied by a risk of hail and significant accumulations.

It also rains in Corsica, PACA and Languedoc-Roussillon. Precipitation is more regular in the Cévennes. They intensify and become stormy especially the following night in Haut-Languedoc and Ardèche, bringing copious accumulations by Tuesday morning.

The former Midi-Pyrénées region, the south of Auvergne and the north of Rhône-Alpes temporarily maintain bright but increasingly windy weather. The rain-storm degradation reaches these regions the following night. In the north-west of France, the weather is changeable, cloudy to very cloudy with more frequent showers in the afternoon.

Concerning the wind, the gusts from south to southeast strengthen in the afternoon on the Aquitaine coast, on the Pyrenees, in the Autan area and the lower Rhône valley in the center-east: they reach 60 at 80 km/h, locally 90 in the valleys of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes, and more than 100 km/h on the Pyrenees.

More localized gusts are also possible under the strongest thunderstorms. Minimum temperatures are mild, between 11 and 15°C, locally 16/17 in southern Aquitaine and near the Mediterranean. The maximums range from 17 to 22 degrees, locally 23 to 25 in Corsica, Provence and Midi-Pyrénées.
