Douar Shems launches fundraiser for earthquake orphans

Inaugurated on Friday in the commune of Amizmiz, province of Al Haouz, the Douar Shems’y social structure launched an online fundraiser, in order to sustain its operation in favor of actions for orphans from the earthquake that struck the region, last year. By the end of October, the ambition is to raise 450,000 DH to “provide for the needs of 144 children over the winter period”.

According to representatives of the initiative, “the funds will be broken down as follows: supplies for children from nursery to primary school (games, school books) up to 100,000 DH, blankets and heating for winter (50,000 DH), trained and present accompanying adults (150,000 DH), health (doctors and psychologist) and pharmacy: 40,000 DH, hygiene: 70,000 DH, water and electricity: 40,000 DH”.

According to the same source, “donors will receive in the form of a newsletter the progress of Douar Shems’y, news from the community living there and regular reports on expenses, as well as the organization of visits to the site for those who wish to come and see.

In its appeal, the establishment underlines that “this donation campaign among the general public is decisive in launching the life of the Douar and ensuring the imminent needs of the winter which is so brutal in this region”. Other sources of funding will soon be requested, in order to “sustain life in the village for 2025 and the coming years”.

Last Friday, the inauguration took place in the presence of local and international partners, local authorities, as well as residents, involved in an initiative as part of the post-earthquake reconstruction in Al Haouz.

Douar Shems’y is managed by the Moroccan Association for Aid to Children in Precarious Situations (AMESIP), within an ecological village which welcomes 144 children. As such, it offers children an educational, cultural and social framework, with the aim of helping them rebuild their lives. It also provides psychosocial support, through individual therapies and group workshops.
